Top 5 Dangerous Calling Experiences
2010 February 11

We’re celebrating the DVD release of Dangerous Calling this week. With that in mind, here are my top 5 experiences working on Dangerous Calling that I wouldn’t trade for anything.
- Working with a Rattle Snake. I hate snakes but I’m glad I did it. And even more glad we had a video assist so I didn’t have to be in the room with it.
- Shooting underwater scenes. I can hardly believe we were able to pull this off but the footage looks great and it adds so much value to the film. Tip for filmmakers: do whatever you can to ratchet up the onscreen value. Cut corners where you can but try and make sure as much of the money that you spend ends up on screen.
- Directing a scene on the square in beautiful Covington, Georgia. Not only is it the town my parents grew up in but it’s also where multiple films and TV shows have been shot. Some projects include Dukes of Hazzard, In the Heat of the Night, Remember the Titans, and most recently The Vampire Diaries. It had long been a dream of ours to shoot something on that square and it finally came true.
- Working with my brother. Josh is my best friend and the only person I want to do this with. We were designed to do this together. No doubt about it.
- Premiering the film before an audience of 500 people. This is why we do what we do. It’s for all of you. We want to make you laugh, cry, scream, and believe.

My top 5:
5.) figuring out how to dispose of dead chicks. (we didn’t kill them, we had EPA approved previously frozen chickens.)
4.) trying to haul a 4,000 pound generator which caused enough transmission problems to sell that suburban.
3.) almost running out of Gas with Vincent, the other producer, while trying to find our way out of the woods in Elijay, Ga.
2.) working with my favorite rental houses in ATL and SAG. (okay SAG was a pain)
1.) Working with the Daws Brothers, we made a few movies together as kids and it was great we got to do it together for real!
I still can’t believe we went from Through the Eyes of a Spy to Dangerous Calling. That is so great! Love working with ya.
Ha! My top five:
1. Conveniently having to miss the snake day.
2. Conveniently having to miss the chicken coop day.
3. Watching Melissa drown, well, fake drown, in two inches of muddy water. She rocked.
4. Getting horribly beat in Trivial Pursuit by Brandon O’Dell while he played expert level on Guitar Hero. That’s called mad skills.
5. And, like Nathan, working with the Daws brothers, two of the nicest guys I’ve ever met.
Awe. Thanks, Heather and Nathan. We couldn’t have done it without you guys.
Thanks Heather. You rock. Let’s do another one!
a rattlesnake, wow.
I worked with a Tarantula last year for a short film.
Fortunately I did not handle it but I got seriously close.
The spider put a leg onto the cheek of the actress – classic shot. She was seriously brave.
Honestly, the tarantula would be scarier to me. Big spiders are bad enough, but give them hair too?! ::shudder::
