Film Humor websites
I’d like to take a minute to point out two film-related web sites that make me laugh:
RiffTrax – A website from the comic geniuses behind Mystery Science Theater 3000 (or MST3K for short.) Basically, it’s the same idea – 3 guys sit around and crack jokes as you watch a movie. But instead of obscure films no one has ever seen or heard of, they do it for high profile Hollywood films. I have personally watched the RiffTrax for The Happening and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Both were hilarious.
Basically, what you do is download an audio track. Then you sync the track with the DVD. It’s pretty easy to sync and once you get it set, you forget it. Every few minutes, a robot voice will read one line to let you know if you are still in sync. Pretty clever.
Head on over and watch a sample.
Also check out:
The Editing Room – Basically this guy writes an abridged script for recent movies in a comical, tongue and cheek way. I always find myself laughing out loud when I read these scripts. And hidden in there among all the jabs is a really well thought out review and critique of the films he’s lampooning. It’s a great way to teach and learn. There’s a good dose of screenwriting basics in there. (Just remember, the site is not family-friendly.)
Check out the abridged script for Star Trek.
