Twilight: New Moan… er… Moon

As of this writing, the new Twilight movie, New Moon, has made over $258 million in the domestic box office. The film had a budget of $50 million. It has been in theaters for less than a month.
Do I want to see it? No.
Do I have to see it? Unfortunately.
At the end of the day, a filmmaker who wants to work in this climate must have his finger on the pulse of the movie-going public no matter how dumb that public may be.
But maybe it won’t be that bad. I mean, I did go see Titanic (which I thought would be stupid) and actually LOVED it. But then again, a chick-flick vampire movie is very different than a James Cameron epic. Plus, I wasn’t wild about Twilight. I didn’t hate it – just didn’t get it.

Let me know what you thought of New Moon and I’ll post my review once I’ve had a chance to see it.

You know my thoughts – total guilty pleasure. The books are great but are written for people of the female persuasion. Even though the film deals with make believe characters, it does deal with very real emotions. For me, the hook is the love story. Women want to feel adored, loved and beautiful. And, even though Edward is a vampire and therefore not a real man, to have another being say, “You don’t know how long I have waited for you”, is something to swoon over.
I thought the quality of filmmaking in New Moon was better and it flowed more than Twilight. The film followed the story more closely than Twilight did which is always a plus for those that have read all of the books. The soundtrack is not as good in my opinion but that is just a matter of taste.
Just my two cents!
Thanks Melanie for the break-down/explanation of why women like the movies/books. Makes a little more sense now.
