Production Diary: Day 6

It is 10:37pm. Call time this morning was 7:00 and we wrapped around 8:00pm. Not a bad day. We finally figured out how to make a day by actually shooting in only one location so we could double up on lighting setups. We shot 8 and 3/8th pages today. That’s the most we’ve gotten… ever. (That’s including all the short films we’ve ever made.)

Our crew is amazing. It’s a joy to work with each one of them. It’s because of their hustle and creativity that we made our day today.

And the actors are great as well. We keep calling them in to block their scenes and then send them away just long enough to check one email or play half a round of Guitar Hero and then call them back. But they are very patient with the process.

I have to point out one actress in particular - Jackie Prucha. What a phenomenal actress! She’s playing the “sweet widow woman” in our film who has a control problem. I’m surprised she isn’t out in LA. She has become our “Miss Pat” character. Pastors all over the world will see her and immediately be reminded of their own “Miss Pat.”

Tomorrow we’re stuck in a bedroom all day. The goal is to get 6 and 3/8th pages. Hopefully it will be like today and we move quickly from lighting setup to lighting setup.

One thing I learned this week -

An Assistant Camera person is one of the most NECESSARY people to have on set… no matter what the producer may say. It is NOT something a PA can do. Just the focus pulling itself is an art form. I can’t watch movies now without picturing all the pink and green marks on the floor and commenting “wow, that must have been difficult for the AC to pull focus on.”

This day was a good day. Thank God.
