Jeremiah survived Mammoth Cave
Posted by Jeremiah on December 11th, 2006 @ 11:39 AM | Comments (0)

I just got back from Kentucky where I went to Mammoth Cave and took the Wild Cave Tour.

It is “the most intense guided tour of any of the National Parks” according to my guides Ben and Taylor. I really can’t believe the U.S. Government allows these tours. I faced danger several times during the 6 hours in the “long dark of Moria.”

We climbed up and down boulders. We crawled and slithered under rocks and through mud.

The most intense part of the trip was a period of time where we were crawling through passages only 9 inches tall.

Before going in, I had to pick which side I wanted my head turned to because I wouldn’t be able to move it until I got to the other side. The No Name Pass was the most challenging of all the crawls I did. I got my helmet wedged in once and nearly lost my nerve but I kept going.

It was an amazing trip. Thank God, I lived to talk about it. ;-) Click on the pictures to see them bigger.

(Thanks to Rob Reid from New York for taking the pictures. Unfortunately, he broke his camera while in the cave.)
