Reading Time: Day 2

We just wrapped our second day of shooting on “Reading Time.”  It’s our latest short film.  The day went great.  We got everything done basically on schedule.  The day ran long, but that was because we were reshooting something from yesterday that had sound problems.

Our cast is amazing.  I can’t say enough.  Stephen Caudill, Robert Pralgo, Charles Black, and Vicky Ryden.  They have all nailed every scene we’ve done.  It’s such a pleasure to direct actors that get their roles and have talent.  Tweaking a performance is much more fun that trying to pull one out of an actor that doesn’t have it.

We’re doing a lot of dolly work in this one.  We’ve really gotten some amazing shots.  The camera is moving a lot and we’re really pleased with what we’re seeing.  We’re working with a new DP, Owen Smith.  Really impressed.  He’s on the ball.  All the shots look great.  He’s also quite the director himself.  You might have seen his WWII short in the top 5 of the Amazon.com short film festival.  Really awesome stuff.  I was excited to work with him and haven’t been let down.

And let me brag on my little brother, Jeremiah, for a moment.  The dude is on top of it.  He’s incredibly good at working with the actors.  While I’m planning the shot with the DP, he does a walk through with the actors and gets their performances just so.  He also keeps the set running smoothly and organized.  Without him, I know I wouldn’t be as good of a filmmaker.
Well, I guess that’s about it.  I have no idea why I don’t write anything for weeks and then pick now to write a post after having worked 13 hrs straight.  Crazy.

Josh was pretty amazing to work with on this as well. We make a great team. And I know I’d be up a creek without Josh.
